Lana Yuan (b.1997, Xinjiang, China) is a kinetic sculptor and installation artist. Her practice is driven by demonstrated contemplation of accelerated consumerism and mechanism society. By fabricating and reassembling hardware, household waste, and children’s toys, Yuan explores deep personal emotions, human relations, and social attribution, Her sculptures embody cautionary observations reflecting on consumption and technology’s increasingly pervasive role in human habitual activities. Yuan is interested in how the increasing dependence on technology and consuming behavior humans are evolving, and how it is becoming an emotional pacifier with dehumanizing effects.

Yuan is an emerging artist, currently based in Toronto. She graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Studio Art (with Distinction) from the University of Toronto. In 2019, the first solo show “System” in Gallery 1265 happened on the UTSC campus.
